Election Countdown

The Presidential Election is a currently a week away.
The students at Texas Southern have mixed feelings on who they should vote for.
Donald Trump is a business who does not have any prior political experience. Hillary Clinton has been in politics for the past 30 years, but the people are not sure if they are able to trust her.
“I have decided not to vote due to the fact that I don’t know who is the right candidate for me to choose,” said April Johnson.
Texas Southern is a Historically Black College and University. The prime enrollment at TSU is African-American. In this country African-American people were unable to vote due to fact of their race. The African-American ancestors fought for the people to vote. This being said, every single African-American person should vote not matter if they vote Republican or Democrat as long as they use the right that was given to them by their ancestors.
The Thurgood Marshall School of Law at TSU had a bus take students to the Palm Center on Griggs Rd in the Historic Third Ward to go vote and exercise their right. This was the second time that the Law School had a bus to take students in the past week.
Tune in tomorrow to see my take on the election.

The Season Is Bright

The Texas Southern University football team are currently .500 in standings after four games. The former head coach Darrell Asberry was relieved of his duties at the end of the season last year. The university decided to bring in a new coaching regime with Michael Haywood at the helm.
“We believe that we have brought in the right guy to turnaround this football program said,” Charles McClelland.
Coach Michael Haywood has brought different aspects to this football team such as: physicality, conditioning, and discipline.
“The hardest thing is conditioning, there is no walking on the green, said Jarius Moore.
The coaching staff has not put up with any nonsense this season no matter who the player is.
The former Texas Southern wide receiver was removed from the team after he showed up to practice an hour and a half. Later in the practice Griffin did not take some constructive criticism easily and cussed out one of the coaches. The news was out later that day that Griffin was removed from the team.
The Tigers now have completed the first four games on their schedule and they are two and two.
The Tigers first game was the annual Labor Day Classic against Prairie View A&M. The game had two-hour rain delay The Tigers lost the game and also lost their starting quarterback Jay Christophe for the rest of the season.
The next game for the Tigers was against the Houston Baptist Huskies in a game which they were favored to win. The Tigers were not able to beat Huskies due to offensive line play and the defense giving up 300 yards on the ground.
The third game on the schedule for the Tigers was against the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils. Coach Haywood and the Tigers blew out the Delta Devils 31-0. Offensive Coordinator Greg Gregory finally implemented a no huddle offense that help quarterback Averion Hurts and the offensive line.
“We are trying to develop a touch physical football,” said Coach Gregory.
The last game so far for the Tigers was against the Alabama State Hornets in which they were able to stage a fourth quarter comeback to win the game.
The defense of the Tigers has been able to keep them in every game this season. The teams two loses were by a combined eight points.
The defensive coordinator Tom Anthony is liking the way his defense has looked so far this season.
“They have bought in from spring to now,” said Anthony “I love our intensity and leadership.” “I am really happy with where we are.”
The toughest part of the schedule for the Tigers are coming up. They have to still play Southern, Grambling State, and Alcorn State. The Tigers were only able to win three games under the Asberry last season. The fans are looking for more this season.
“I expect the team to win seven games this season,” said Robert Harris Jr.
The Tigers have seven games remaining on their schedule and it could be possible for them to win seven games if they keep playing the way they have this season.

The Cleveland Cavaliers run the Atlanta Hawks off the court while making a record amount of three-pointers.

The Cavaliers and Hawks played against each other last night in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. In the first half the Cavaliers could not miss from the three-point arc.

“You kind of just live in the moment,” said Kyrie Irving. “It was a special moment for all of us”

The Cavaliers broke a single game playoff record with 25 three-pointers in a game. This award was previous owned by this years Golden State Warriors.

“We’ve mentioned all season long that playing downhill and playing at a good pace is paramount for us so tonight was no different,”said Kevin Love.

This is exactly what the Cavaliers did. They got out on a hot start and never looked back.

“Beat down to its very last compound,” said Shaquille O’neal”

O’neal just says how bad this game was for the Hawks and what an embarrasement it was for them.

Charles Barkley and Skip Bayless two NBA analyst have questioned if the Hawks even be here and compete against the Cavaliers.

“You have to knock the hell out of them and not for this game but for to set a tone for the next game,” said Barkley.

The Hawks and Cavaliers will play against each other on Friday. We will see if the Hawks can put on their big boy pants and have a competitive game.

A Tough Fight

A hard fought battle occured when the Dallas Mavericks played against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Each team had plenty of choice words for each other and even the Mavericks owner Mark Cuban got involved.

“You look at Dirk,” said Cuban.”I’m not going to talk about other teams’ players, I guess other than what I just said, but Dirk for 15 years won 50 games no matter what. We put Moe, Larry and Curly next to him and we won 50 games. Russ is certainly an All-Star, but I consider Durant a superstar.”

These remarks by Cuban were atrocious and uncalled for. Russell Westbrook has proven that he is an All-Star by being the MVP  of the last two All-Star games. Westbrook also had the most triple-doubles this season as Earvin “Magic” Johnson.

Westbrook did not comment on the remarks of Cuban, but instead did his talking on the basketball court. The game following Westbrook had 36 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assist.

The Thunder players were asked about what they thought of Cuban statements. The question was proposed to Westbrook but Kevin Durant stopped Westbrook from answering and answered himself.

“He’s an idiot,” said Durant. “He’s an idiot. All right. That’s what we’ve got to say about that. He’s an idiot. Next question.”

The Thunder are heading to the next round after they defeated the Mavericks in five games. The Thunder will play against the the San Antonio Spurs.

A Guaranteed Win

The Houston Rockets come into Game 5 of the West Conference quarterfinals with their backs against the wall.

One of their crafty veterans have made a guarantee that they will win in Game and push the series to at least six games.

“I’m guaranteeing it,” said Jason Terry.“If I don’t, then what? It’s a loss, right. I guarantee victory — that’s what it’s going to take. I believe in my group. I know we can get a win here and send this thing back to Houston.”

The Rockets have been able to win one game against the Warriors in Game 3 when they were at home. Stephen Curry was out of that game due to having an ankle sprain.

Curry will be out for the rest of series, because he was a sprained knee.

Mostly through this series the Rockets have looked disfunctional even when James Harden hit the game winning shot in Game 3. It is very hard to believe that the Rockets can win this game.

The team has been up and down all season, but the players still believe in themselves.

“Game 5 won’t be the last game for us,” said Dwight Howard.

The disfunction in locker room has been evident but the Rockets are trying to come across as the team that can pull of the upset of the number one seed.

The Rockets have already lost to the Curry less Warriors already in this series.

The Legacy Has Ended

Kobe Bryant explodes for 60 points in his final game.

The Lakers faced off against the Utah Jazz in the final game of Bryant’s career. The Lakers were able to pull of the come from behind win.  Bryant came out of the gates slow but was able to heat up once he settled his nerves.

Many of Kobe’s teammates were in attendance such as Derek Fisher, Rick Fox, Lamar Odom, and Shaquille O’neal.

“I challenged him to get 50, but that mother****er got 60,” said O’neal.

This was the best way a legend such as Kobe could end his career.

No one expected him to have 60 points in his final game after playing 20 seasons in the association .

“I expect him to have 40 points tonight,” said Michael Smith.

Even with that prediction his was off by 20 points. Bryant becomes the oldest player to score 60 points in a game by five years.

Bryant has shot down any questions of him coming back next season or even playing again in the NBA.

Kobe was able to have  23 points in the fourth quarter.

“For the first time in my career my teammates were telling me to shoot it and were setting picks for me to get open instead of telling me to pass it,” said Kobe Bryant.

Bryant was able to go out with a win and a 60 point game. This is the way we all expected Kobe to go out. He was shooting and driving to the basket until he could not do it anymore.

History in the Making

The Golden State Warriors are  have made NBA history.

The Warriors have won 73 games after defeating the Memphis Grizzlies. Stephen Curry goes off for 46 points and hits eight three-pointers.  The Warriors won this game and will go down in history as the team with the most wins in the regular season.

“It means a lot for the long standing Warriors fan, they’ve went through a lot,” said Klay Thompson.

They passed the 95-96 Chicago Bulls for the best record. Their season will not be over after this because they will still need to win the championship. The Warriors are the defending champions and are looking to repeat.

The debate is which team is better the 95-96 Bulls or the Warriors from this year. A case can be made for either team. The Bulls had the best player ever in the NBA in Michael Jordan along with Scottie Pippen, Steve Kerr, Dennis Rodman, and Ron Harper. This Bulls team played outstanding defense.

The Warriors offense is one of the best we’ve ever seen with their explosive scoring and ability to go on runs. Stephen Curry will most likely the be the MVP of this season. Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Harrison Barnes are great compliments to the scoring ability of Curry.

“The ability to make history right here right in front of them is something special,” said Harrison Barnes.

The Bulls would win the series no matter what rules were implemented because defense wins championships.
